SHELLEY ANN CARRILLO
COMMUNITY ● VISION ● PROGRESS
I hope this message finds you safe and well. My name is Shelley Ann Carrillo and it’s a pleasure to introduce myself to you as a candidate for City Council Alderman of the 8th Ward. As a young black woman of Latin heritage, raising two children; it is my desire and civic duty to advocate for the underrepresented within our community and the changes that we wish to see in our local government. My aspiration to run for Alderman is driven by the love I have for this community and the need for a progressive and multicultural perspective.
Growing up in Evanston and experiencing such things as playing AYSO soccer, sledding at “Mt. Trashmore”, eating lunch at Hecky’s, and ice skating at Robert Crown; instilled in me the importance of community, leadership, and social engagement. With the continued success of District 65 and graduating from Chute and ETHS myself, it was an easy decision as a single parent and first-generation American to raise my children here through the same district.
Working as a Quality Assurance Professional has taught me how to build, conserve, and continuously improve infrastructures and systems. My ability to adapt quickly, and formulate efficient processes will transfer well and serve as a baseline to higher community standards and will help move our progress as a city forward.
Given my passion combined with my professional and life experiences, I believe that now more than ever is the right time to choose a fresh, new, and forward-looking candidate that truly represents the fabric of the ward and will bring the needs of the 8th ward to the forefront.
